Hourly Rate: $26.62 - $39.93, depending on qualifications, education, and experience.

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Manager of Marketing & Communications, and within established policies and procedures, this position is responsible for maximizing the visibility of Traverse City Light & Power, which includes Traverse City Light & Power Fiber, (Utility) by effectively and professionally creating and dispersing communications to customers, the community and the media that support Utility services, initiatives, and education. This position is critical to providing focused, relevant and targeted stakeholder communications in a proactive manner by engaging and aligning communication and marketing content with business objectives and core company values.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Develop written, visual, print, digital and multimedia communication pieces for a variety of audiences, including customers, employees, community members and the media.
- Write, design and coordinate the production and distribution of customer newsletters, email marketing campaigns, direct mailings, forms, flyers, event invitations, social media graphics, media announcements and other communication materials for the Utility’s electric and fiber services.
- Develop and implement social media strategies and content for the Utility’s electric and fiber services, including writing posts, designing branded graphics, capturing photos and video, recording on-camera or voiceover content when appropriate, and editing content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and emerging platforms.
- Create platform-appropriate social media content, including short-form video, Reels, Stories, event coverage, employee features, customer education, project updates and other timely content designed to increase awareness and engagement.
- Assist with the marketing of TCLPfiber, including collaborating with Utility staff and vendors to develop campaigns, digital assets, social media content and other materials that promote brand awareness, customer education and product engagement.
- Develop, create and maintain content for all Utility websites, including written copy, graphics, photography, video and other digital assets.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with local media, including creation and disbursement of press releases as directed.
- Plan, coordinate and conduct community outreach events, including developing promotional materials and capturing real-time photo, video and social media content before, during and after events.
- Evaluate and recommend new and existing communication channels to best meet strategic communication goals to include reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting data analytics, surveys and overall customer engagement ensuring the Utility is utilizing the most effective methods.
- Work with departments to keep abreast of upcoming activities or initiatives, making recommendations and developing communication campaigns.
- Respond to requests for information through the Utility social media channels and website.
- Attend community events and meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends.
- Assist the Director of People & Community when necessary, including employment opportunity awareness through social media and other methods, along with internal communications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related field. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in marketing and communications.
- Valid State of Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Experience in desktop publishing and graphic design software to include, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficient with email marketing systems and major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, with hands-on experience creating, publishing and managing platform-specific content.
- Experience capturing and editing high-quality photos and short-form video using smartphones, cameras and common editing applications for use on social media, websites and other digital channels.
- Experience using social media, website and email analytics to measure communication effectiveness, reach, engagement and audience growth, and to apply findings to future content.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers, employees, vendors, Board members and the public.
- Organizational and Time Management: Ability to work under deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing work demands.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics, good judgement and confidentiality of information.
- Must be able to occasionally work beyond the normal workday/week to attend functions and meet essential deadlines.

The typical work environment for this position is a business office setting where the noise level is quiet and sometimes moderate. However, this position, as needed, will drive a motor vehicle to locations throughout service territory.
